Who is served?


You are served if you are an adult with mental retardation who is in need of day supports, but may not be ready or interested in full time vocational services.

Why is the service offered?

The Mental Retardation Day Program helps you learn skills so that you will be as independent as possible in your personal and social life.

What is the service?

  • You will meet with a professional staff and your team to develop a plan that establishes your goals and objectives for the year.
  • You will participate in one of two safe, comfortable, well supervised and supportive locations.

  • You will be supported in increasing your everyday living skills, such as, social, leisure, academic, computer, fitness, horticulture and cooking skills.
  • You will participate in community activities, such as bowling, parks, movies, restaurants, shopping, museums and theater. By doing this, you will learn more skills and build positive relationships with people in the community.
  • You will participate in activities facilitated by staff to further develop your communication and social skills, so that you can develop new friendships, as well as improve your interpersonal skills.

  • If you do have an interest in doing some vocational work, you may work part-time in the Day Program on contract work obtained by PATH’s Vocational Program, which includes such tasks as: hand assembly, sorting, packaging, and removing labels. If you work on contracts you will be paid for this work in keeping with Department of Labor standards.
  • This service is licensed by Pennsylvania’s Department of Public Welfare.
Where is the service located?
When is the service available?
Monday to Friday - 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM

You are eligible to receive services if:
  • You reside in Pennsylvania and are registered with Philadelphia Mental Retardation Services (MRS). If you are not registered, PATH staff can help connect you with this governmental agency so that you can become registered.
  • You receive approval and PATH receives authorization from Philadelphia Mental Retardation Services.
  • This authorization allows PATH to provide this day service to you with no cost to you or your family.
