Who is served?
You are served if you are an adult experiencing mental
health problems or mental health and substance abuse
problems.
Why is the service offered?
The Medical Department helps you identify the source of
your problems and gain control over your life so you can
improve your mental health and well being.
What is the service?
- You will meet privately with a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in helping individuals with mental health problems.
- You will discuss, with your psychiatrist, your concerns and review the difficulties you are experiencing.
- You will receive a comprehensive evaluation to determine if medications could help to alleviate some of the symptoms you are experiencing.
- If medication is recommended, you are free to
accept or decline the psychiatrist’s recommendation.
- If you decide to take medications, the psychiatrist becomes a member of your treatment team and will meet with you on a regular basis to monitor your progress and facilitate your recovery.
- You may also meet with a nurse who will work closely with the psychiatrist to monitor your progress.
- You will continue to receive other PATH services
that are recommended by your treatment team.

Monday through Friday - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
You are eligible to receive services if:
- You reside in Philadelphia and you have Medical Assistance (MA).
- You reside in PATH’s service area and you do not have health insurance.
- If you have any other health insurance or reside outside Philadelphia and speak Russian as your primary language, please call PATH to determine your eligibility.
